EU to equate to torture "Berkut's" actions at "Maidan"

"Maidan" protesters' beatings and detentions by the former special police force have got their assessment at the Council of Europe.

“Berkut” has not yet been punished for its unlawful actions.
Concil's of Europe Committee for Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment is preparing to equate the maltreatment of "Maidan" protesters to tortures.

Such statement has been published by the appropriate Committee.

"There are documented cases of detainees' maltreatment, which were not justified by the situation. These cases may be regarded as tantamount to tortures" – says the report.

It provides the examples of excessive use of force cases by the police unit against the protesters.

Ukrainian government has been struggling for a year now to punish the former "Berkut" employees, who had been recognized guilty on multiple charges.
