Czech Republic ratifies the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement

52 out of 67 senators present voted for the ratification of the agreement, three were against.

Czech Republic ratifies the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement
Czech Senate (upper chamber) ratified the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU on 10, December. The speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Yevhen Perebiynis posted about this on his Twitter.

"Today, The Senate of the Czech Republic has ratified the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. Thanks to senators. But especially to the Czech people. We believe in support at the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament" – he twetted.

52 out of 67 senators present voted for the ratification of the agreement, three were against.

The agreement has been offered for ratification by the Czech Foreign Minister, Lubomír Zaorálek.

"We are trying to help Ukraine to consolidate. If it works, then hopefully it will develop as a nation, which is of great interest to us. It was attractive for us earlier, and it could be again," - he said.

Reportedly, the lower house of the Czech parliament should begin considering the law the day after tomorrow.

In September, 2014, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU  in sync with the European Parliament.

It was reported later, that the ratification of the agreement by parliaments of the EU states members will take place in an accelerated mode.

Currently, among  28 EU member states, the ratification procedure of the Association Agreement with Ukraine and the EU has been approved by Poland, Hungary, Sweden, Estonia, Slovakia, Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta and Bulgaria. Ukraine also completed the ratification procedure. Moreover, the ratification of the agreement has been supported by the European Parliament.

The agreement will formally take place after all countries complete the ratification, which can take several years.
