Verkhovna Rada approves Ukrainian Armed Forces growth to 250,000

204,000 recruits will serve directly in the Armed Forces.

The number of Ukrainian Armed Forces may grow to 200,000.
The Ukrainian Parliament has approved the increase of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The bill was supported by 270 MPs.

According to the text of the bill, submitted by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the number of the Ukrainian Armed Forces increases to 250,000 people. 204,000 recruits will serve directly in the Armed Forces.

"The number of the Ukrainian Armed Forces increases in case of a "special period" by the personnel called up for military service by the Presidential Decree on the mobilization," – says the document.

The explanatory memorandum to the bill explains that the growth of the Armed Forces from 184,000 people is necessary because of the "special period," which now has a long-term nature.

The law will enter into force on the day following the day of its publication.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk had been planning to introduce a similar law to the Ukrainian parliament before the President.
