Donbas militants continue receiving support from abroad, says Armen Harutyunyan, the Head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.

"There are also credible messages about the continuing transfer of heavy weapons and foreign fighters, including militants from the Russian Federation, to the uncontrolled by the Ukrainian government territories," – announced the diplomat on Monday in Kyiv.

"The Ninth Report of the UN Human Rights Mission, acting from December 1, 2014 to February 15, 2015, contains information that heavy weapons and foreign fighters, including militants from the Russian Federation, continue arriving to the areas of Donetsk and Luhansk oblast' controlled by the militants," - said the OHCHR's statement.

Mr Harutyunyan pointed out that both sides had been using heavy and modern weapons in the period covered by the report of the mission, including the shelling of Mariupol.

According to him, until the ceasefire, there has been chaotic shelling of residential areas controlled by both Ukrainian forces and illegal armed groups.
