Ukraine has stopped importing gas from Russia until there is legal decision to reduce price. Ukraine wants a new long-term deal until 2016.
This has been announced by the Minister of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn at a press conference in Kiev on Wednesday, April 1.
"Have not bought yet (Russian gas). If the price of $ 250 confirmed, we will do so," – said the Minister. Demchyshyn specified that payment and delivery of Russian gas would resume as soon as "Naftogaz" and "Gazprom" coordinate technical agreement, confirming the price and until a long-term "great deal" is signed.
He also confirmed that Ukraine is planning to legally secure a temporary gas deal with Russia for the period until the spring of 2016.
"We will sign an agreement in Brussels on April 13-14, which will fully cover the entire period," – said the Minister.
"We do not need an agreement for the next quarter, but an extension of the memorandum ("winter package," signed in late October 2014 in Brussels - Ed.) for the next heating season.
We need to understand the pricing by the end of 2016 heating season," explained the Minister.
Earlier, it was reported that "Naftogaz" has offered "Gazprom" to continue "winter package" until spring 2016.
At the same time, the Russian side believes the price in the "package" is a price with discount, approved by the Russian government. The Ukrainian side considers it a market price.Source: Interfax-Ukraine
