National Bank predicts Ukraine's GDP to fall by more than 8%

Ukraine's GDP has still not reached the level of 2008, said the Head of the NBU.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) expects a drop in gross domestic product of the country by the end of 2014 by 8.3%.

Head of the NBU Valeria Gontareva told about this to the journalists during the round table.

"Real GDP of our country has still not reached its level of 2008. That is, the country was in recession all these 6 years. Today NBU can predict GDP growth to be minus 8.3%," she said.

It should be mentioned that World Bank has lately estimated (and its predictions deteriorated four times this year) that since the beginning of the year Ukraine's GDP will fall by 8%.

The government recognises that the decline in the economy this year will be significant. "According to our figures - 6% (a fall of GDP of Ukraine) - it will be a good result... God grant this year we went to 7%," - Head of Ukrainian Ministry of Finance Alexander Slappo said in the middle of September.
